About Moi

I was born in June 1981, I'm a hearing impaired paper-crafter who loves all things crafty. I sew, although I'm still very much a novice at sewing. I bake and cook hopefully all kinds of delicious treats. I have a huge passion for photography and the camera {yes I'm old school I still use an actual camera} is never far from me. I also love creative writing from making up sentiments/verses for my cards and other paper-craft projects to penning some fiction. I am an avid reader and I may even throw in some book reviews on here too!

Cards Galore Scrapbook Challenge

The Cards Galore Scrapbook Challenge them is PATCHWORK and although this wasn't something that had me jumping for joy whilst I was looking through old photo albums with my Nan I came across lots of photos I wanted to scrap, most are of me and my childhood best friend Angela and some of me and my grandparents or doing activities with my grandparents.  I should WARN YOU AT THIS POINT THAT SOME PHOTOS MAYBE OFFENSIVE.

As a child my Grandad and his friends went rabbiting and from a young age I learnt to skin and portion a rabbit.  This is one of my favourite photos as my childhood favourite food was rabbit stew.

Whilst at my Nan's I was putting things away and realised that on my bed there I had a bedspread that was my Great Nan's and it's a patchwork bedspread, this gave me the idea for this LO.

I have to say I then spent several days sketching out a too scale sketch of how I wanted this to look.  I felt that sewing had to feature because of the patchwork but throughout my sketch I couldn't decide if this should be real or faux.  I admit my sketch changed and altered as my ideas developed during the making of the LO.  Sorry my photos of the sketch are REALLY bad!

Once I had my sketch I prepared my photos, journaling and embellishment shapes and laid them over the sketch.

At first I was planning to use ribbon to edge the patchwork, for the piece that falls over the sides of the bed on the bedspread but ended up using a paper doily to replicate lace, although I glued it on I also used head pins {which hurt and makes a fountain of blood if you touch the wrong end} to create the impression of the lace being held in place ready to be sewn.

At this point I still really hadn't decided if I would use real or faux stitching so I drew out the shapes on my actual LO and then used a pencil to dot where I'd start/end a stitch if I stitched them or the distance for faux stitching then at the last moment I decided I would use real stitching so poked holes for the stitches and hand sewed between the patchwork shapes.

Once I finished sewing I slowly began the task of matching the shapes on the sketch to those on my LO and stuck each photo, journalling, and embellishment shape down.

This is my finished LO which is for the cards galore scrapbook challenge {link above}.
