Sall the Crafty Baker

Well I've said for a while now I wanted to try out some darker crafting and it appears that I have not only jumped in but taken the quickest route possible via the death slide if you will excuse the pun.   It seems somewhat appropriate that my plunge into the dark is for Ike's World Challenges , this time the theme is Monochrome and mine is grey.  I've used the Cut and Craft Kitchen template again...this time I elongated the table and added an extra set of legs for it.  I used the sink unit for a sink and cupboards.  I used part of the small wall for the body fridge, the large walls for walls and well I confess I hadn't printed the sink so I'm very sorry but I 'botched' that myself.  I used a window template to the extractor fan. Well I should confess I got kind of excited with the theme for  Ike's challenge and knew exactly wanted I wanted to do and what image to use.  I'll let you guess the song I based this card on. For this card I used the following Black soot distress ink Faded jeans distress ink Old paper distress ink Tea dye distress ink Stormy Sky distress ink White glitter Silver glitter Iridescent gold H2Os Shades of Purple Promarkers Ike's spanish dancer image   For this I've typed the lyrics to the song out and printed it.  Distressed the lyrics with tea dye and old paper ink.  I've also printed Ike's image and coloured it before cutting out. I masked an area off and distressed inked the background adding glittery stars.  and painted the area I masked off with H2O's.  Then I stuck the lyrics and image on.  Okay so at this point I should probably tell you what the song I chose is.  Well it's Nicky Campbell's...

I was a little nervous but totally intrigued by  Ike's Challenge using a Photo for inspiration.  The photo was great but nothing jumped out at me and it wasn’t until I was pondering it whilst bleeding a clutch in the workshop that the inspiration for this piece hit me…the apples in the photo made me think of the evil queen in Snow White {okay so my obsessive watching of Once Upon a Time has inspired me too!} and the hair of a bedraggled person led me to Act 4 Scene 1 in Macbeth, where the witches gather to cast the spell included in the cauldron is the finger of a birth strangled babe ditch delivered by a drab.   I have used a witch image of  Ike's and coloured the top half using promarkers.   The skirt is die cut apples and coloured with inktense pencils.   My background papers are Docrafts; Tilly daydream and art deco.   I googled bat images, printed, cut and coloured using inktense pencils then wrote a quote from Shakespeare’s Macbeth on them...

As many of you know for a very long time {since childhood} I've had a fascination with dead bodies and all things like that, I won't bore you with details I'm sure you've all read the about me post!  So I have finally got the courage to take this into my crafting and this is the result. I have to say I took the name of the challenge blog VERY literally...it's my first step and it's smaller than a baby step but I confess to enjoying it so will be trying to keep delving into this area of craft.  You can find the A step into the dark challenge on their blog and I do hope lot's of you play along. For this project I used Skellie Gossip from Ikes Art .  I totally love this image and hope that my friends and I will still be gossiping as skeletons and without a doubt we will be eating cake! As many of you know I have a firm interest in photography {only the basics} and cannot resist a quick snap! I have chosen to make this scrapbook Layout with Ike's Challenge in mind.  The theme this time for Ike's Challenge is "Things with Wings" and I had very recently snapped a pic of  Ladybird I had rescued. This has to be the most basic of Layouts and I had a 'sudden inspiration' moment part way through for  a different project.  I tried sketching and it didn't help and as I have no where to put one project while I do another I had to plough on.  I used docrafts butterfly ribbon/washitape as another 'winged' thing.  Ike's image is a bird sitting on the photo of the ladybird.  I have no idea what possessed me to add the buttons!  I should also warn my photo printed strange I suspect I'm low on ink, after considering a reprint I decided the almost blue hue on part of the bush wasn't too bad and I'd go ahead and use it. ...

On this occasion I attempted to be clever and combine  Ike's Challenge with a card swap I am participating in.   The first, Ike's Challenge , seemed very simple…Tickled Pink using one of Ike's images …no problems I thought despite not being a pink crafter or person!   The second part however left me pondering for quite some time.   The swap requirements were:   must be about the person’s hobby; and contain a die cut and a stamped sentiment.   In this case I decided I would use crafting as their hobby. Things were so bad I’ve actually had two attempts at combing both and failed!   For the first card I thought I’d go for how my desk looks when I craft…basically bits of crafting everywhere.   I used a Tilly day dream backing paper in a sort of pink shade and plonked some walnut stain distress ink over the top.   I roughly chopped up some ‘pinkish’ papers and plonked on the corner…feeling confident at this point I used a crimson arc...

Because I love Cut and Craft I couldn't wait until my wrist injury was healed to get making this fantastic kitchen, okay my general love of kitchens helped too. At this point I should warn you poor readers that there will be a lot of photos in this post.  I followed most of the instructions from Cut and Craft however I do confess that after making the sink unit the rest became very self explanatory.  This is one of the easiest things I have ever made and so much fun.  I have tried to incorporate the challenge requirements for IKE's challenge.   So I've got some Easter eggs hidden around the kitchen ready for the "Easter" egg hunt and my walls have portraits/paintings of Ike's images.  The challenge can be found here.
